  • Listening to this episode now…Shawshank is one of my favourite movies AND books of all time. I am unsure if you have read it – But listening to your discussion of the ending I just want to quote the last few lines of the story.

“I hope Andy is down there.
I hope I can make it accross the border.
I hope to see my friend and shake his hand.
I hope the peecific is as blue as it has been in y dreams.
    I hope.”

I read the story for the first time in secondary school – It was in a big massive double hardcover of Stephen King Stories. (Skeleton Crew (Which starts with the mist)) and Different Seasons.) I have still yet to read Apt Pupil (the ending was just so perfect to me I just stopped reading.) This is one of the movies where I am certain that it is better than the book. But it is just so subtlety different.

Before you record the A Clockwork Orange review, you may want to chekc out this video by Brad Jones a.k.a. The Cinema Snob. It’s hilarious. http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/bj/tcs/31339-a-clockwork-orgy

While it may be hard to imagine sending a group after one guy in a war zone, it’s pretty realistic. It’s happened a few times, also, the Sullivan Act is a law that prevents sending everyone in a family into a war zone preventing that from happening now. A friend of mine’s dad was a twin, they were both drafted at the same time, of course, so because of the Sullivan Act one stayed in the States pushing paperwork while the other went to Vietnam. The military learned their lesson from WWII

Shawshank is just as good as you two said it was. It is one of my favorites of all time and I too never get tired of watching it.

I can understand you “not getting” the Ryan premise, especially during the film. They don’t show anything like that happening. Yet it happened/happens all the time. Think of stretcher bearers going under fire to pick up the wounded. How about sending out a fully manned helicopter into a fire fight to pick up a wounded man. All the time 🙂
